Barbara's Jewels

As promised, here is a sampling of my friend, Barbara's, beautiful work. We shot these on Saturday, September 28, 2002. It was a first for both of us ... me, for photographing jewelry and Barbara for having her artistry showcased on the internet. Please be patient, as we go along, we will get better at this. I promise! At this time, the showing is plain with no embellishment of frames or shadows. For now, here are the jewels. I will get descriptions of them and what type of stones, crystals and gems they are during the week, we just wanted to get them up.

If you come here tomorrow, there may be something new or something new done to the layout or writing, but it is still raw. If you were here yesterday, it's really different today. Below, a few words from Barbara, an introduction and insight into who she is and what she does. After you read it, you may feel as though you are viewing the work of a friend.

*Not so many months ago I was a seeker. I was seeking a creative outlet that would nourish my soul. Like others, my life was filled mainly with the activities that seemed necessary to making a living. My needs for beauty, creativity and spiritual nourishment, however, were growing so strong, they had become a "physical" sensation. In response, I finally paid attention to the nudging to take a jewelry making class, and as they say, "the rest is history." Not only have I discovered my passion, but clarity about "what I am to be when I grow up."

Tulsi's Jewels, my custom design jewelry business, is evolving out of the knowledge that I am an artist, an educator and one who desires to "touch" others in a person way. Using gemstone and metal beads, art glass, wire and "heart," I create jewelry that brings beauty and spiritual nourishment meaningful to the wearer.

I do this by spending time with people introducing them to the special quality of handcrafted jewelry and how thorugh the medium of jewelry it is possible to keep ourselves in touch with joy, beauty, and relaxation. Some prefer to select a piece that is already made, such as those shown here. Others like to be part of the creative process through discussing what they want in a piece of jewelry or participating in the design process which I coach. The process is as individual as the person buying the jewelry. And I believe it is immensely satisfying to both the buyer and the artist.

The pieces shown here are representative of my creations. My artistry, technical ability and intent will continue to develop, and I welcome your feedback. This is special jewelry for special people.

My heartfelt thanks to Dee at Unknown Writer's Sanctuary for the blessing she has brought me in bringing my offerings to the web.*
