Sparked By Spock, Pre-Fan Club.
I have pretty much been a sci-fi, scary movie aficionado since birth,
and was just a kid barely into my teens when Star Trek premiered.
The show was not one that my parents planned to watch, so I had
no idea that it even existed at that time. The night of it's premiere,
I had just fallen asleep. I awoke to my mom gently shaking me and
telling me to get up and come into the living room where the tv
set was. There was this one guy on there, she said, that I just
had to see. I ran out to the living room with her and sat down on
the couch through the last commercial. The next scene is the inside
of a spacecraft, the crew was dressed really cool, and the captain
was cute. I became interested in the story and got more comfortable.
The next time the bridge doors slide open out walks Spock and my
heart starts to race uncontrollably. I fell head over heels in love
with him. The very next day, I wrote my first fan letter to Leonard
Nimoy, pouring my heart out to him and raving about the show. I
asked for a picture of him. About two weeks later when I got home
from school my mom hands me this manilla envelope, 6x9, and says
it's from the studios! When I pulled out the picture to the left
I just about died! I kept the envelope for the longest time, and
then lost sight of it somewhere since 1968.
These are among some of my cherished possessions. |
